Penn State’s acceptance rate surprised me (54.2%)

I always assumed Penn State was way harder to get into — like borderline elite-tier competitive. Seeing a 54%+ acceptance rate genuinely caught me off guard.

Is it less about insane stats and more about overall fit? Or does it depend heavily on campus and major? Curious how competitive it actually feels once you’re applying.

I always had it mentally grouped with the Ivies
I got in last year with a 3.6 GPA, 1250 SAT, solid extracurriculars but nothing wild. It’s more about being well-rounded and showing consistency than being perfect.

same, I thought it was more competitive too. I got in with a 3.6 GPA and 1280 SAT. They seem to value well-rounded apps

Hey! I’m a bio major at Penn State. Got in with a 3.6 GPA and 29 ACT, so definitely not perfect scores. Honestly, the campus vibe and professors are way more important than stressing over tiny stat differences. Once you’re there, it’s about what you do with the opportunities.
