When did college humble you the most?

When did college humble you the most?

Back in high school, I was that “smart kid.” Barely studied, still aced tests, always got the “you’re going places” comments from teachers.

Fast-forward to my first semester in college… and yeah, reality hit pretty fast.

Suddenly everyone in my classes was also “the smart kid” from their high school. The pace was faster, the material was deeper, and the whole “I’ll just skim the chapter the night before” strategy stopped working real quick.

I remember my first midterm where I walked out thinking, “That was fine.”
Then the grade came back and it was… very much not fine.

That was the moment I realized college isn’t just about being naturally good at school. It’s more about discipline, study habits, and actually putting in consistent work.

Curious what moment humbled you the most in college. Was it a class, a professor, a group project, or something else entirely?

Graduated top of my class in hs with teachers literally telling me I’ll go far. I cried after my first college algebra class week 1

Failed a crazy easy intro to psych class because I misunderstood how optional the optional attendance actually was

freshman year midterms humbled me real quick

came in thinking I was smart cause high school was easy… studied the night before like usual and got absolutely wrecked on my first exams

that was the moment I realized I don’t actually know how to study, and everyone around me is just as “smart” or smarter

had to relearn everything from scratch after that, no more last-minute cramming lol
