Medical Terminology Flashcards - do they actually help or just waste time?

Need your advice based on experience!

I’ve been trying to memorize terms and it’s honestly overwhelming. Someone told me to switch to medical terminology flashcards, but I’m not sure if it’s actually effective or just another thing that looks productive.

Do flashcards really help you retain terms long-term, or is it better to just read + repeat?

Also if anyone has good ready-made decks, drop them here. I found a couple but not sure which ones are worth it:

Curious what worked for you - flashcards, notes, or something else?

I’m a med student and I’ve been Anking on and off using flashcards of medical terminology for about 3 years now. Began because upperclassmen kept telling me “just use Anki”, so I gave it a whirl.
Honestly At first felt kind of pointless. But after a couple of weeks it began making sense.

I usually just do like 20 mins a day, nothing too crazy. The difference is you stop forgetting stuff. I used to read terms and forget them in a few days. Weeks later, and I can still answer flashcards without ever having reopened my notes.
Ease of use is a big plus. I just pull it up on my phone in between classes or when I have a few minutes. You don’t need entire study sessions for it to be effective.

Most of the people I know in med are on Anki in some form.
But the only downside I‘ve seen is that the beginning is difficult. It’s kind of tedious, boring at first couple weeks. But when you really start getting into it it’s much more effective than re-reading your notes nonstop.
