Every time I try it pushes me to “pause subscription” or throws me into bundle offers.

Step‑by‑Step Guide
Log in at max.com or open the Max app.
Go to your Profile → Billing Information → Manage Subscription.
Click Cancel Subscription and confirm. Done
yeah this stuff is always confusing tbh
if you signed up on the hbo max site just log in, click your profile, find subscription and hit cancel. super quick
but if you did it through apple or google or amazon then yeah that’s where it gets annoying. you gotta cancel it from there, not inside hbo max. like go into your iphone subscriptions or google play and turn it off there
also deleting the app does nothing lol, learned that the hard way. it keeps charging until you actually cancel it
if you’re not sure where you even got it, just check your bank and see what it says next to the payment. that usually tells you where to go

If you registered directly at their site, then log in, go to your profile → subscription → cancel. Pretty straightforward, takes like a minute.
But if you used Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or even your TV provider — you won’t find a cancel button in HBO Max at all. You need to go back to the very same platform and cancel it there. That’s where most people get stuck.
Also, small thing: uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel anything (found that out the hard way). Your subscription continues until you actually cancel auto renew.
