Help Introduction Paragraph Struggles make not boring

Since the beginning of time, people have always been interested in the topic of communication. Communication is very important in our lives because it helps us share ideas and understand each other. …Not me :sob: Help — Introduction Paragraph Struggles (how to make it not boring)

I keep writing introductions that start like this:

“Since the beginning of time, people have always been interested in the topic of communication…”

And every time I read it back, it sounds like the most generic essay opening ever. My professor literally wrote “too vague” in the margin last time.

How do you actually start an intro so it sounds interesting but still academic? Do you start with a question, a story, a fact?

Honestly, the easiest fix is to ditch the “since the beginning of time” stuff and start with something concrete.

“The last time my Wi-Fi went out during a group project, we discovered just how fast communication breaks down when technology disappears.”

It’s specific, relatable, and you can still transition into your main point.

“Imagine a world where no one could text, call, or even gesture to another person. That’s basically life without communication — chaos.”

Hack I use: start with a weird fact, a short scenario, or even a surprising statistic. It immediately gives your intro some personality
