I’m thinking of applying for one at my campus IT department. Curious how bad it gets during finals week and whether it helps with real-world IT skills or just printer jams and password resets.
Yeah I worked a help desk job during my sophomore/junior year. Tbh it was 70% resetting passwords and calming down professors who thought the projector hated them. ![]()
But it did teach me how to talk to non-tech people without sounding condescending, which is honestly a huge skill. Plus, downtime between tickets sometimes meant I could squeeze in homework.
I did one semester at the campus help desk and tbh it was chill until finals. Then it’s chaos. Everyone forgets their passwords, printers start rioting, and you become a walking “have you tried turning it off and on again?” meme. Still manageable though
